Abstract

Influence of enhanced temperature on the laser efficiency of ytterbium-erbium phosphate glasses additionally sensitized by chromium and neodymium ions has been investigated. It was found out that temperature effects in the range from room temperature to 200°C for chromium-free glasses are small. The efficiency decrease for chromium-containing glasses was found out to be connected with temperature decrease of Cr3+ - Yb3+ energy transfer yield and with the temperature increase of losses due to radiationless energy transfer from ytterbium to divalent chromium.
