Abstract
Reduction of the pulse width of a continuous-wave mode-locked optical parametric oscillator (OPO) by a factor of three using a fast semiconductor saturable absorber is demonstrated. The KTA-OPO pumped by the 50 ps long pulses of a Nd:YLF laser produced 8.5 ps short pulses. The inserted MBE grown absorber with 9 % saturable losses has a recovery time of 3.4 ps. The OPO with the repetition rate of 75.4 MHz generated a output power of more than 500 mW.
