Abstract
We have compared cw diode-pumped Cr;LiSAF and Cr:LiSGaF lasers in Q-switched operation. The Cr:LiSGaF laser produced four times more energy (12 µj at 10 kHz) than a Cr:LiSAF laser under the same conditions of pumping (four red diodes emitting 400 mW).
We demonstrated that these better performances could be attributed to lower thermal quenching of fluorescence in Cr:LiSGaF.
