Abstract

We have demonstrated a nonlinear optical crystal consisting of diffusion-bonded plates of periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN). This crystal allows combining the advantages of planar processing used to make PPLN wafers with the power-handling capability of large apertures. We demonstrated an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) using a 3-mm thick diffusion-bonded stack consisting of 3 1-mm-thick PPLN crystals.
