Abstract

Room Temperature upconversion lasing has been observed from Tm3+, Ho3+, Er3+, and Pr3+ ions in ZBLAN fibers at wavelengths as short as 455 nm [1–7]. Lasing at 380 nm has been observed in Nd3+:LaF3 for temperatures up to 90 K, and lasing at 413 nm has been observed in Nd3+:YLiF4 for temperatures up to 40 K [8,9]. Recently, room temperature lasing at 381 nm (4D3/2 - 4I9/2) and at 412 nm (2P3/24I9/2) has been observed in Nd3+:ZBLAN fiber and is described here.
