Abstract

Fiber coupled laser diodes, with wavelength around 800 nm, have become commercially available, with power in excess of 10 Watts guided in a multimode fiber. Such diode lasers represent ideal sources for pumping solid state lasers: the fiber coupling makes it possible to remove the diode from the laser head, with evident advantages in terms of size and thermal management.
