Abstract

For the first time we propose a new efficient method of creating of population of the upper laser levels TP3+: Er3+ (4I13/2), Tm3+ (3H4), Ho3+ (5i7) and Dy3+ (6H13/2) by direct nonradiative energy transfer from tetravalent chromium ions Cr4+. YAG crystals doped by Cr4+ and TH3* were grown by Caochralski technique. The main spectroscopic characteristics of the grown crystals are presented. The proposed method of direct sensitization discovers new opportunities in the development of efficient 1.5-3 μm lasers and amplifiers.
