Abstract

Saturation of the optical absorption in V +:YAG crystal is investigated. Absorption cross section of tetrahedral V3+ at 1.08 μια is estimated to be of 8.2 ± 0.8xl0-18cm2. Q-switching and passive mode-loking for a number of solid-state lasers with wave- lengthes at 747 nm, 780 nm, 1.06 μιη and 1.34 μm have been obtained with V3+ :YAG saturable absorber.
