Abstract

New laser results for Cr4+:Y3Al5O12 are presented. Slope efficiencies of 12.3% for continuous wave pumping with a Nd:YLF laser and 27.5% for long pulse pumping with a Nd: YAG laser were obtained. A tuning range between 1309nm and 1596nm was achieved. The polarization dependence of the laser output energy is explained by considerations of group theory and crystal structure. Room temperature laser action of Cr4+:Y2SiO5 is also reported.
