Abstract
An intracavity pumping scheme is used to pump the 2.1-μm Ho3+:YAG laser. Separate Tm3+:YAG and Ho3+:YAG crystals are placed within a single laser cavity. The Tm3+:YAG crystal is pumped by a Ti:sapphire laser at 785nm, and the resulting 2.0-μm Tm3+ laser emission pumps the Ho3+.YAG crystal. The slope efficiency of the 2.1-μm Ho3+:YAG laser output is 42% of the absorbed 785-nm pump power.
