Abstract
The effect of output coupler transmission on the gain-switched pulsed operation of the chromium-doped forsterite laser was studied. A Q-switched 1.06 μm Nd:YAG laser pulse was used for optical pumping. The laser performance results, and measurements of fluorescence lifetime and pump radiation transmission through the sample as a function of pump fluence, indicate the presence of excited state absorption of the pump radiation.
