Abstract

We describe the performance of gain-switched, Ti: Al2O3 unstable-resonator oscillators that can be readily tuned and line-narrowed. Using a graded-reflectivity output coupler, we have demonstrated high energy (430 mJ, 10-ns pulse at 10 Hz), near-diffraction-limited output beams. A near-transform-limited spectral linewidth was obtained via injection-seeding with a single-frequency, cw Ti:Al2O3 laser. We frequency-doubled the Ti:Al2O3 output with a BBO crystal and observed >50% conversion efficiency.
