We report cw room-temperature laser operation at 1.45 μm from the 3H4 --> 3F4 transition in Tm3+;Tb3+: LiYF4, pumped with a laser diode at 782 nm. Tunable laser output from 1.449 - 1.455 μm was also obtained by pumping with a titanium sapphire laser. Tb is codoped with Tm in order to depopulate the lower laser level.
