Efficient, Tunable Solid State Laser Using Rhodamine-Doped Silica

Abstract

Lasing near 630 nm has been observed in a sulforhodamine 640 doped silica gel pumped by a Q-switch doubled Nd:YAG laser. A conversion efficiency of 20 % is obtained. The laser wavelength can be tuned over 40 nm.
