Abstract

The 1987 breakthrough in decreasing optical losses in Ti:Sapphire (Ti:S) laser rods has led to significant performance of a flash- lamp pumped Ti:S laser. Over 3 J output has been obtained with 2% efficiency near band center. Over 1.4 J has been obtained at -900 nm broadband.
