Computation-free Adaptive Optics for High-Contrast Imaging and Other Applications

Abstract

This paper describes a modal optimization for adaptive-optics systems. The Walsh-function modes applied to the deformable mirrors produce such a simple focal-plane response that virtually no computation is needed for achieving desirable outcomes.
