Abstract

We propose analytic expressions newly developed based on the microscopic Beer-Lambert law to determine the concentrations of absorber in turbid media by time-gating measurements. The changes in the concentration and the absolute concentrations of an absorber are simply determined by three observable values; the time-gated reemission, newly defined mean pathlength, and extinction coefficient of the absorber. The validity of the expressions has been confirmed by Monte Carlo simulations and experiments at various absorption levels with different time-gates. Our expressions thus can be used for quantitative imaging and tomography of turbid media.
