Photon and phonon coupling by electrostrictive forces in photonic crystal fiber

Abstract

We demonstrate that the acoustic phonons involved in stimulated Brillouin scattering (both forward and backward) in optical fibers can be completely described by using electrostrictive forces. Numerical calculations for photonic crystal fiber illustrate the model.
