Abstract
Developing head-mounted displays (HMD) that offer uncompromised visual comfort confronts many grand challenges. One of the key contributing factors to visual discomfort is the lack of the ability to render proper focus cues in HMDs to stimulate natural eye accommodation responses, which leads to the well-known accommodation-convergence cue discrepancy problem. In this talk, I will provide a comprehensive summary on various technical approaches toward enabling focus cues in HMDs. I will also review recent advancements of head-mounted light field displays and demonstrate examples of HMD systems developed in my group.
