Abstract

Recently, utilization of holographic optical element (HOE) as an image combining tool for augmented reality (AR) is vigorously studied because HOE has superior transparency with special characteristics such as wavelength and angular selectivity. In this paper, we propose the accommodation-inducing head-mounted type AR by using Bragg mismatched reconstruction of holographic image combiner. The principle of Bragg mismatching reconstruction is presented with the configuration of proposed head-mounted type AR display. Also, we performed the beam width analysis of the retinal projection system. Finally, we designed and built the prototype accommodation-inducing head-mounted AR display. Experimental results show that the proposed display system is capable of providing accommodation effect according to the focus distances.
