Abstract

To extend a fiber-optic transmission system from traditional C band to C+L band, it is necessary to place L-band optical amplifiers so as to amplify L-band optical signals. We consider three L-band amplifier placement strategies in the context of a C+L-band elastic optical network (EON). Simulations show that the strategies are efficient to trade off spectrum efficiency and system cost.
