Abstract
A novel optical temporal differentiator based on a distributed feedback semiconductor optical amplifier (DFB-SOA) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The key principle of the temporal differentiator is the DFB-SOA operating in gain saturation. The spectrum response of the gain-saturated DFB-SOA is theoretically investigated. The experimental results show that the gain-saturated DFB-SOA can achieve temporal differentiation of an input optical signal.
