We firstly demonstrate a 40-Gbit/s honeycomb 2D-PAM4 TCM transmission over 20-km fiber for short reach systems. Experimental results show that it outperforms the conventional PAM4 by ~2.8 dB (BER @ 3.8×10−3) with low extra complexity.
