Abstract

A new class of optical sensors is presented, and numerically analyzed. The proposed sensor is a phased array of nano-antennas whose beam direction rotates when reacting with biomaterials. Measuring a change in the beam angle is much easier than measuring frequency or angular dip shift, since it does not require wavelength analyzers or wideband sources. This low cost measurement setup makes the proposed optical sensor an advantageous candidate in bio-sensing. Numerical results clearly show that a small volume of 0.025 μ m3 of biomaterials can result in 7.2 degrees rotation.
