Optical MIMO Techniques for MDL Mitigation in Few-Mode Fiber Transmission Systems

Abstract

Accumulated MDL introduces penalties and reduces the capacity of space-division-multiplexed optical systems. We investigate MIMO techniques to reduce the impact of the MDL such as optimized mode scrambling and DSP solutions based on space-time coding.
