Abstract
The chirp managed laser (CML) mainly includes a directly modulated DFB laser followed by an optical spectrum reshaper (OSR) filter. By using an integral layer-peeling approach, we are able to design the OSR filter with the desired amplitude and phase property, which breaks the trade-off between the filter bandwidth and the filter slope steepness inherently existing in the FP etalon based filter and hence greatly facilitate the optimization design of the OSR for a better transmission performance of a CML. The dispersion pre-compensation is also included in the optimized OSR design, which further extends the transmission distance to 43 km for the CML modulated at 25 Gbps, as supported by simulations.
