Phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry with I/Q demodulation

Abstract

We propose a new phase demodulation scheme for phase-sensitive Optical Time-Domain Reflectometry (Φ-OTDR). The technique is based on I/Q demodulation and homodyne detection using a 90° optical hybrid. Both the theoretical analysis and the experimental demonstration are presented.
