Refractive index sensitivity enhancement by bending fiber taper modal interferometer

Abstract

We study the bending effect of a taper-based modal interferometer on the interference fringes and refractive index sensitivity. The sensitivity is increased by 3.48 times and reaches 1192.7nm/RI-unit as curvature increases from 0 to 0.283mm−1.
