Abstract

Polarization dependent loss (PDL) will introduce statistical power variations. This effect will accumulate during the signal transmission and induce random phase shift due to the nonlinear effects in optical fibers. This phenomenon is studied analytically in this paper with the verifications from the numerical simulations.
