Redesigning Vision by Head Worn Displays

Abstract

Current head worn display (HWD) technologies are still far from ideal. We envision HWDs becoming a powerful tool enough to fully redesign our sense of vision in the future. With an advanced optical see-through (OST) HWD, augmentations will be indistinguishable from the reality. Such vision augmentations will be perceived as natural extension of one’s native sense of vision. With an advanced video see-through (VST) HWD, vision redesigning will be even more flexible. Our sense of vision will then be free from physical and physiological limitations, and can be tailored to a given task on demand. In this article a number of our research activities for this ultimate goal will be introduced.
