We report on the development of an optical setup based on a multipass optical cell and on Mid-IR frequency comb laser for breath analysis. The multipass optical cell [1], is formed by eight highly reflective confocal mirrors to achieve a long optical path of 600 m in a cell of 1 m length. The frequency comb laser is a broadband fiber laser spanning in a range from 3.1µm to 3.4µm. The relevant spectrum covers many biomarkers described in [2], including Acetone, Methane, Pentane, and Ethane. Perilminary sensitivity estimation for Acetone, Ethane, and Pentane showed that we could reach about 500 ppbv, 10 ppbv, and 75 ppb respectively. The optical setup can be used not only for breath analysis but also providing opportunities for a wide range of applications, including environmental monitoring, combustion processes and fundamental atomic and molecular physics studies.
