Abstract

Reflectance measurements with polarized light for a germanium single crystal in the region between 310 and 550 Å (22.5–40 eV) for angles of incidence from 15° to 75° in steps of 7.5° are reported. The synchrotron light from DESY was used. Optical constants n, k, and thus 1, 2, and |Im−1| were established by a least-squares fit to the observed reflectances. The difficulties in determination of optical constants when n≃1 and k≪1 are pointed out. The region of the present study includes the M4,5 absorption edge from 29.5 to 32 eV. The results are discussed in connection with sum rules and the double plasma loss.
