Phase-dependent Nonlinear Optics in Resonant Atomic Systems

Abstract

Light fields propagating in atomic media with ◊-level configuration exhibit two metastable behaviors of their relative phase. These behaviors are associated with separate types of atomic coherence and minimize dissipation.
