Abstract

Strong grating formation in pure silica fibers using 193 nm radiation is reported. Unsaturated refractive index changes of ∆n~0.3·10−3 was observed in non-treated fiber and ∆n~0.5·10−3 in fibers with high hydroxyl concentration.
