Abstract

We have constructed a compact, simple high-repetition rate (1 GHz) mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser with self-starting capability using a saturable Bragg reflector as the mode locker. Nearly transform-limited, 1.6-psec pulses were obtained after external dispersion compensation. This laser is potentially pumped by compact green lasers and will be improved to produce a turn-key system.
