Optical Materials Express publishes research at the intersection of materials and optical science. To ensure that we continue to represent both well-established and emerging research in this growing area, we recently appointed two new Associate Editors with topical expertise that will complement the rest of the editorial board. I am very pleased to introduce and welcome Dr. Shekhar Guha and Dr. Germano Montemezzani.

Drs Guha and Montemezzani will handle submissions in nonlinear optical properties of various materials including conventional nonlinear media, inorganic and organic photorefractive optical materials, optically anisotropic media, and guided-wave and quantum optics. Please join me in welcoming these newest members of the OMEx editorial board. I look forward to working with them.

Shekhar Guha

ome-10-8-1817-i001Shekhar Guha obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Pittsburgh, USA in 1981. He subsequently worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Southern California, then at North Texas State University, and from 1985–1995 he was based at the Martin Marietta Research Laboratory in Baltimore, MD, all in the USA. He joined the Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, USA in 1995, where he is now a Principal Materials Research Engineer. Since 2014 he has also been a member of the graduate faculty of the Electro-Optics Department, at the University of Dayton, Ohio. His field of interest is the characterization of linear and nonlinear optical properties of materials and infrared generation through nonlinear frequency conversion.

Germano Montemezzani

ome-10-8-1817-i002Germano Montemezzani received his Ph.D. in Physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, Switzerland in 1993. After holding a postdoc position at JILA, University of Colorado, Boulder, USA, he returned to the Nonlinear Optics Laboratory at ETH in 1995 and became Senior Assistant and then Leader of the Photorefractive Effects and Photonics Team. In 2004 he moved to France and was appointed Associate Professor at the University of Metz. He became full Professor of Physics at the same university (now University of Lorraine) in 2008. His scientific fields of interest include inorganic and organic photorefractive and nonlinear optical materials, wave interaction in optically anisotropic media, as well as the study of new concepts in guided-wave and nonlinear optics inspired by quantum analogies. Germano led the physics master’s degree program at Metz University for more than ten years and has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and six book chapters. He is a senior member of The Optical Society and a member of the French Optical Society, of the Swiss Physical Society, and of the German Physical Society.
