Feature Issue of Optics Express

Liquid Crystals beyond Displays

Submission Opens:15 January 2019

Submission Deadline: 15 February 2019

Optics Express welcomes submissions to a feature issue on "Liquid Crystals beyond Displays." The most popular application of liquid crystals (LC) has been liquid crystal displays (LCD), but now other display technologies such as OLED and micro-LED are being used in many applications. However, more and more photonic devices and systems based on LC phase modulations are being proposed, such as fiber communications, tunable lenses, gratings, lidar, and lasers, and many countries have invested enormously in LCD technology. This issue will focus on these applications related to liquid crystals aside from displays.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • LC lasers
  • LC lenses (contact lenses, ophthalmic lenses)
  • LC devices in augmented reality
  • Optical vortex
  • Waveguide/communications
  • LC in lighting application
  • Energy harvesting
  • Smart windows
  • LC in non-linear optics
  • LC in metamaterials
  • LC antennae
  • Lidar/beam steering
  • 3D integral imaging
  • Light field applications
  • Holographic microscopy
  • Anti-counterfeiting
  • Bio-sensors
  • Photobiomodulation
  • Photon-induced phase transformation
  • Optical systems via LC devices

All papers need to present original, previously unpublished work and will be subject to the normal standards and peer review processes of the journal. The standard Optics Express Article Processing Charges will apply to all published articles.

Please prepare manuscripts according to the author instructions for submission to Optics Express and submit through OSA's electronic submission system, specifying from the drop-down menu that the manuscript is for the Feature Issue on Liquid Crystals beyond Displays.
