Feature Issue for Optics Express

Colloidal Nanophotonics: Physics and Applications

Submission Opens:15 July 2015

Submission Deadline: 15 October 2015

Colloidal nanophotonics is emerging as a new field with the recent advancements in the synthesis and applications of colloidal nanoparticles. This feature issue will focus on the physics and applications of colloidal nanoparticles including (but not limited to) those of semiconductors, metals, metal oxides, and polymers. The photonics applications can widely range from optoelectronic devices for light generation, lasing, light detection and light harvesting to various optical functions, e.g., scattering for photovoltaics and colloidal lithography. This feature issue will be published in the Energy Express section of Optics Express. Papers for this feature issue should emphasize colloidal nanophotonic physics, devices, and functions (rather than the synthesis).

The scope will cover:

  • Colloidal semiconductor nanocyrstals for light generation, detection, and harvesting
  • Colloidal nanoparticles of metals and metal oxides
  • Conjugated polymer nanoparticles, polymer based colloids
  • Colloidal quantum dots
  • Colloidal quantum wires, nanorods
  • Colloidal quantum wells, nanoplatelets
  • Physics of colloidal nanoparticles (plasmonics of nanoparticles, excitonics of nanoparticles, energy transfer with nanoparticles, deep sub-wavelength structures of nanoparticles, resonant phenomena in nanoparticles, dielectric antennas of nanoparticles, etc.)
  • Applications of colloidal nanoparticles (scattering for PVs, colloidal lithography, etc.)
  • Color enrichment nanocrystal films (for displays and lighting)
  • Nanocrystal scintillator films (for photovoltaics, cameras, etc.)
  • Color science of nanocrystal emitters
  • Colloidal LEDs
  • Colloidal lasers
  • Colloidal photodiodes/photosensors
  • Colloidal photovoltaics

Only original papers and invited reviews will be eligible for submission to the feature issue. Papers will be subject to peer-review process and published online upon acceptance. Normal Optics Express Article Processing Charges will apply to all published articles.

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the author instructions for submission to Optics Express and submitted through OSA's online submission system. When submitting, authors must specify that the manuscript is for the feature issue on Colloidal Nanophotonics feature issue (choose from the drop-down menu).
