Abstract

This paper discusses a logical image-prefiltering method that belongs to a group of preprocessing methods that make it possible to obtain an additional gain in the image compression that can be implemented by entropy encoders. The method takes into account the fact that the threshold contrast of the visual system is limited and makes it possible to increase the compression efficiency without introducing accumulative errors when the image-compression?reconstruction operation is repeatedly carried out. The results of experimental studies of the described method are presented, and it is pointed out that these changes have virtually no effect on the imagerecognition efficiency.
