Laser projection displays based on acoustooptic devices

Abstract

This paper discusses the problem of using acoustooptic deflectors and modulators to form images in laser projection displays. The advantages of a deflecting and modulating module based on two mutually perpendicular Bragg cells are demonstrated. The devices are characterized by such parameters as the information capacity and the information throughput. A connection is demonstrated between these parameters and the physical characteristics of the deflectors, including the SNR. The advantages and disadvantages of acoustooptic systems for the deflection and modulation of light are analyzed from the viewpoint of using them to project laser images.
