Abstract
It has been reported that Y2O2S:Eu exhibits nonlinear behavior as a function of intensity. Since such behavior has been observed in ZnS:Ag and since Y2O2S:Eu has been used in recent years to convert x rays into visible photons, we have carried out a study of the linearity of these two phosphors. The experimental method uses the National Institute of Standards and Technology synchrotron (Surf II) in a unique mode in which the beam current is decreased in fixed steps. The results indicate that Y2O2S:Eu is linear as a function of intensity over 9 orders of magnitude, whereas ZnS:Ag is nonlinear, as expected.
