Abstract
The areas and temperatures of N spatially unresolved blackbody sources are shown to be calculable in closed form by use of the frequency moments of the composite spectrum of the sources. The system of equations involving these moments and techniques for its solution for arbitrary N are given. A method is presented for determining the value of N from the moments. The technique for calculation of the areas and temperatures is illustrated by a specific case with N = 2. The magnitude of the errors of the calculated areas and temperatures due to the presence of a spectrum error is highly dependent on the frequency of the error.
