Abstract
We propose a metamorphic photonic network system that enables session-based, IP flow aware dynamic optical resource allocation, based on autonomous wavelength management. A superdense WDM scheme that offers a minimal channel spacing of 0.1 nm is used as a flexible extension of conventional WDM channels. Here we propose to use smart devices that can self-control their wavelengths using physical layer wavelength information stored in the devices. The devices share reconfigurable information interactively with each other and can contribute to compose the self-reconfigurable (metamorphic) network systems. To verify the proposed architecture, we performed the practical examinations using the subsystems with wavelength-managed 'disk filters' in a field trial (Chitose trial).
