Abstract
<i>In situ</i> spectroscopy has become increasingly important for the research of catalytic reactions over solid catalysts because of the valuable information it provides for the elucidation of the reaction mechanism under actual industrial conditions. In particular, <i>in situ</i> IR spectroscopy is very useful for the observation of surface species, such as adsorbed reactants, possible intermediates, and products associated with the catalytic surface reaction that have formed on the catalyst. A typical industrial process is that which involves surface reactions which are the syntheses of methanol and ammonia.
