Abstract

It seems somewhat unusual to write about a great man with no anniversary of his birth or death in mind and with no idea of celebrating the exact anniversary of some remarkable achievement performed by that person. Thinking back on my own life, however, I remember how fortunate I was, as a student in Paris in the late twenties, to have met Albert A. Michelson, one of the greatest experimental physicists of our generation.
