Cover: a corona overlapped by Quételet's fringes as found in nature and everyday situations. On ponds the interference pattern is due to an algal film (top). A similar pattern formed on hot tea is shown in the middle image. Its cause is a thin film of tiny water droplets (bottom) located just above the reflecting water surface.
