Abstract
A method for obtaining the optical constants of beryllium in the far ultraviolet based upon electron energy loss experiments is described. This method correlates the electron interaction with the target material to the optical properties of the material. The n and k values and the reflectivity are presented for photon energies in the range 12 ≤ E ≤ 28 eV. The n and k values are given and are checked for self-consistency by means of the Kronig-Kramers dispersion relations. The optical data have been fitted by a two-parameter Drude model with a plasma energy of ℏωp = 18.4 eV and a relaxation time of 1.4 × 10−16 sec.
