Abstract
An exact formulation is made for the radii of curvature obtainable by the two kinds of multilayered deformable mirror with either a monomorph or a bimorph actuator. They are then compared to derive a criterion for superiority in deformability. Numerical studies mainly show that the PVDF piezoelectric film, for example, is suitable for use as a monomorph actuator while the PZT piezoelectric ceramic is better as a bimorph actuator. Experimental results are also given to validate theoretical and numerical analyses.
