Abstract
Since the gas-liner pinch emits resonance lines from a homogeneous central layer without self-reversal effects, it can be used as a source of blackbody-limited line radiation in the vacuum ultraviolet spectral region at high temperatures and with high spectral radiance. To demonstrate the potential use of the gas-liner pinch as a standard source or as a source of line radiation with high radiance, we have investigated the optically thick C iv resonance line at 154.8 nm. The spectral radiance in the center of this line corresponds to a temperature of 120,000 K. The gas-liner pinch is compared with other standard sources in the vacuum ultraviolet.
