Abstract
The HF laser line attenuation by atmospheric constituents has been studied several times.1–5 Absorptions by water vapor and carbon dioxide are the main contributions to this attenuation. The absorption coefficients for these species may be calculated for each HF chemical laser line using tabulated values from the Air Force Geophysics Laboratory (AFGL) absorption line parameters.6 However, the accuracy of the different parameters used in this calculation affects the results. Hence the need for experimental measurements of the HF laser line absorptions by water vapor and CO2 gases exists.
